RFoF GPS/GNSS gps over fiber (GPSoF)

Mobile operators and integrators must transfer GPS signals from the antenna to a control room. However, if the physical distance exceeds a few hundred meters at L1 and L2 frequencies (around 1.6GHz), coax cable cannot be used due to high loss. That’s why mobile companies use GPS timing signals in many applications, from cellular networks to data centers.

To meet this market need, RFOptic provides its GPS Over Fiber (GPSoF) solutions that carry the GPS signal from several hundred meters without any distortion or loss to the original signal.

An important application of our GPSoF solution is the use of GPS for timing synchronization for data enters and GPS navigation in highway tunnels for emergency usage. The deployment can be point-to-point or point-to-multipoint using optical splitters.

Another application is using GPSoF for communications between buildings. In such an application, the GPS signals are converted into optical signals that are then distributed to various parts of the building, where they are converted back to GPS signals and connected to various timing devices. Our GPS over Fiber solution allows one GPS antenna to provide timing signals to many parts and far-flung corners of the building, which cannot be reached by coax cables.

When the GPS signal has to be transmitted from one GPS antenna on the roof to multiple locations within a building, our GPSoF solution performs an optical split, carrying the same GPS signal to many remote locations. This means that the GPS timing signals can be distributed throughout various buildings with many locations.
